The Municipality of Kalloni
consisting of seven villages, which are Anemotia, Skalohori,
Philia, Parakila, Skala Kallonis, Papiana,
Kerami, Argiana, Dafia and Arisvi, is situated in the
centre of the island. The area of Kalloni has been the centre and the
"lighthouse" of the orthodoxy and the culture.
Its contribution to the determination of the education' s level, thanks to its Monasteries and to its historic Metropolis, was very important. It has been reborn many times from its ashes due to the strong will and insistence of the locals. It is

In the Municipality of Kalloni we will find a big and modern market place with shops that can satisfy everybody' s needs. The Medical Centre of the north west island is situated in the Municipality of Kalloni. The inhabitants have the possibility to get there a full medical and pharmaceutical care.
PARAKILA It's a mountain settlement western of the area of Kalloni. The settlement has a great number of olive trees, lemon and orange trees. The ocal peaople are very friendly and offer you a warm hospitality. Their works are agricultural mainly. DAFIA A mountain settlement that we reach as long as we are moving on the main road of Kalloni-Eressos, 46 klm. away from the capital of Lesvos island. there you can visit the famous monastery of Limonos. This monastery is full of plants and flowers, stony buildings and gentle people. SKALOXORI A mountain settlement that we reach as long as we are moving on the main road of Kalloni-Eressos, 58 klm. away from the capital of Lesvos island. Great interest shows the building that is used as a school today which is built with traditional local stones. AGRA It is settled 68 klm away from Mytilene. It is a mountain settlement that has decades of tradition. People of the area are exptemely kind, keep the traditions of their area and they mainly work with their animals and their olive trees. ANEMOTIA
This settlement is 55 klm away from the capital city of Lesvos island. It is a mountain settlement, having picturesque, traditional small roads. Here is the church of Saint Georgios.
FILIA A small traditional village 50 klm away from Mytilene. Here you can relax since tranquility is one of the area features.

Κalloni was and still is very famous for its tasty delicacies, such as mullets, sardines and shellfishes, "produced" by the Gulf of Kalloni. The tourist has
the possibility to practice every kind of sea sport on the very long beach of
Kalloni, to visit the seaside villages situated around the Gulf of Kalloni

The ceremony of the bull' s sacrifice and the horse races that take place during the local festivals are the traditional happenings that date back to the primitive ceremonies. RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS The Religious Festival of Saint Ignatius. On the 14th of October the Monastery of Limonos celebrates the memory of Saint Ignatius, its founder ΣΥΝΕΔΡΙΑΚΟ ΚΕΝΤΡΟ In the village of Kalloni there is the air conditionned Municipal Theatre of 300 seats, where conferences and scientific meetings from all over the world take place. SARDINES FESTIVAL
During the summer, in the beginning of August in Skala Kallonis the inhabitants celebrate the Sardine Festival.

WETLANDS OF KALLONI GULF
The seaside areas that are situated around the Gulf of Kalloni form a unified ecological system, which is in a perfect condition. This ecological
system is a shelter and a place of reproduction for the rare and protected
species of birds. That is why this area is included in the Special Areas of the Nature Protection, part of the net Natura 2000 according to the Communal Direction 92/43.
There are more than 134 different species of birds and sea
plants and most of these are protected .

SALT PANS In the surroundings of the Gulf of Kalloni there are two saltpans, the saltpan of Kalloni and the saltpan of Polichnitos. Thanks to their morphology, their position on the seashore and their function they are a wonderful marsh. AN ENDLESS OLIVE GROVE The seaside olive groves in the surroundings of Kalloni are a special ecosystem whose activity is complementary to the activity of the marshes as far as the attraction of birds is concerned.
