Also, painting in Lesvos has flourished as an expression of the internal of the inhabitant. One of the most significant representatives of the folk painting is Theophilos Chatzimichael at the beginning of the 20th century. 

    His works are distinguished for their authenticity in colors, figures and have been characterized as original pieces of art. The famous painter derives his themes form the heroes of the Greek Rovolution ( 1821 ) and the endless Lesvian nature. 

    His works are exhibited to the homonimous Museum at the area of Varea - suburb of Mytilene. 

    Also Lesvos is the birth-place of the famous Greek painters G. Iakovides, M. Kalliyiannes and S. Axiotes.
